I am outright disgusted by "Singaporean" Gao Ning's capitulation to Croatia's Tan Ruiwu (same homeland, should know). I caught the match on TV Mobile and towards the last two points, Gao just simply did not want to play. What fucking attitude is this? And what for Singapore should have such people in Project 0812? Where is the fighting spirit? In my opinion, such useless animals with absolutely no mental proficiency do not deserve a place here, no matter how good they are technically. Now I have had an answer to my previous post title.
And I'm also pissed off by 4F, 4G, and 4I. These few team captains, in envy of our comfort priveliege, finally got the guts to ask us for the bloody controller on 18 Aug. The gist is, we took all the trouble through the systems by having 40 signatures on a letter to Mr Giam, but all they needed was one mouth and seven words to the OM, "Please help us ask Mr Giam. Thanks." This is totally equal to leapfrogging the whole SOP. We were seriously irate over their actions but if Mr Giam complies, we just have to shut up. Its total unfairness, but nothing is fair.
School now can be quite monotonous at times, but the fun within friends get more and more. I think this is the time we really bond together and eventually gel as one. This is what every holistic education should include, but more often than not a very meagre minority fails to agree to it. Maybe to them , there is something more than that.
And most of all, my GESS NCC unit. Well, I think today and tomorrow will be really my final dash of duty as after which we'll all be pulled out and put into the exam hall. I didn't quite had a hard time (not as expected) taking orders for my last unit photo before my stripes and bars climbs onto my shoulder. Nevertheless, my passion, my heart, my life, my soul.
I just witnessed Singapore's 3-2 win over South Korea in the Olympics women's table tennis semi-finals. That means that our half-decade battle for an Athenian piece of metal is finally over. But, the irony is, all three ladies in the Singapore team, namely Li Jiawei, Feng Tianwei and Wang Yuegu are previously China nationals. Instead, more than half of the table tennis players in any competition give up their identity as "the Dragon's child" and turn to some white country or something. I would say, Olympic table-tennis could be considered "China Premier League Table Tennis".
Nonetheless, at least the medal belongs to the country, as we continue practising "Govt say this, citizens say K" with our so-called "Democratic" and "Westminister" systems.
Could you please ask yourself, have you lived your 10 years of mandatory education fruitfully? I can tell you proudly, I have.
Besides the valuable values learnt, I have a long honour roll. Not boasting, but I've got a whopping ten intra-school awards and one inter-school trophy.
I won my first medal in 1999. It was some Snake Run during sports day and the team was supposed to run around cones. Then, Poi Ching was still in Toa Payoh and shared the field with Pei Chun Public. I was always slow during practices (I was much clumsier when young) but surprisingly, my inspring performance on the actual day drove the team to the 1st spot. Due to my extreme small size, my teammate was able to carry me as part of a celebration. The team was very much elated upon the glory.
My only inter-school glory was the East Zone Volleyball Championships in 2004. The memory may be quite vague, but I still can recall the main parts. In 2003, I was the only P5 then who didnt make it to the school team. The coach rather let my juniors take my place. I worked hard and finally got into the school team in 2004. However, thanks to my vice captain (forgot his name), I was booted from the team after Zonal Competition, and I was also the only school team player who did not step into the court all the way into our National quarters (even the P5 kid who replaced me did get a sub appearance).Well, I was simply considered the worse player then.
Of course, there was no DSA then, so everyone went to study. I acheived quite a disappointing 231 which deriviated quite a lot from my target 250, on 24 November 2004, the day of release of the results. My then-form teacher Ms Phua Ai Lei, OM Mr Chee Ai Leng and then-principal Mdm Foo Mui Chuw were amongst the most anxious for my results. They comforted me on my below-par performance. I remember clearly that Ms Phua still told me about a student who scored an under-average score for PSLE but seven distinctions in O Levels. Four years on and we promised to bring back my O Level report slip. On 22 December 2004, Mr Chee received the pile of posting results from MOE and after the clerks pasted them on the respective report books, Mr Chee took the trouble through 280 books and picked out mine. He was overjoyed when he saw: "4. 3006 GAN ENG SENG" He told my mum that GESS wasnt a bad school too. And indeed, GESS is the greatest school, I think. It is where I will stay committed to.
Just four years ago then, O Level seemed so far-fetched but within the blink of an eye, we are now sitting for it in two months' time. And more heartbreakingly, my glorious, fun, fulfilling and meaningful 10 years of mandatiry education is coming to an end. It was the time of my life, I believe.
On another note, the National Day Parade wasn't great at all, thanks to this year's GOH the dragon scouts. They were of low standard, wanted to do a split-march-in when they can't even have a proper bang and their uniform suck. Seriously, I think the supporting contingents, without white gloves, were much better. Later the day, caught the Beijing Olympics OC which was really grand. China really has ability, I feel. But I still ponder on their people's social quality.
Then the next day was National Day, the real one. Once again, I don't know why SAF picks lousier parade commanders each year. Is it a custom? Nonetheless, Parade SMs still maintained their standards. As usual, concerts and fireworks were nothing interesting. Watched Money No Enough 2 after the parade. Well, quite true, it really portrays the situation in So, in appreciation to our beloved nation,
"The Singapore Song" by Rony Tan. Its red-hot on YouTube now.
These few days, there were quite a chain of events. After National Day there was a day off for us and after we returned back to school it was really full study mode. I got a disappointing A2 plus Dist oral grade for Chinese and maybe I'm the only distinction student retaking? Nevertheless, got through English O Level quite like a breeze, I had something to fall back on, at least. Furthermore, I feel I'm soaring now, after I got two straight Ds for the recent SS and Phy Tests respectively; and scoring quite well in A Maths Practice Papers. Well, Maths, Science and Humanities aren't that difficult. Remove that thought, because O Level is just part and puzzle of life.
i have officially two more chances to wear my full No.3 uniform as a cadet, SSG. i'm quite proud of my acheivements so far in the unit, honestly. Well, i think i worked very hard and contributed quite a lot. Not boasting, but i believe ppl will agree although they may not say it superficially. 3 more months to go and i can return to the unit, which i think i have quite a great sense of attachment to. Surprisingly, i dont find joy in scolding cadets, but planning and organizing, marking attendance and handling supplies seem much more appealing to me. I maybe can make a record the shortest percentage of in-duty time a specialist takes a cadet in the unit's history.
Within the same three months, I'm going to graduate from the school where I spent the most important part of my life. I wonder if my teachers and friends will remember me, and vice-versa. within the wink of an eye, 4 years passed. I completed my 10 years of mandatory education. What's gone is gone, it can only be fond memories which are happy to think of, but breaks your heart when you try to retrieve them.
On another note, revision for O levels should have gone quite well for me so far, i think. CHL and TKT adopt totally different strategies that are poles apart. One pressurizes on the importance of working hard and kicking our engines, while the other takes a relaxed perspective and boosts confidence by marking tests and worksheets very liniently. This is the same for Niu and Zahara, but these two are not that far apart. AJ starts becoming strict accompanied by his "Singapore" roars every morning, Mrs Tan is ever kan-chiong while Mr Ang is the opposite, very relaxed and "at own pace". Ms Tan (陈老师) does put in effort to improve our chinese and broaden our outlook. Well, i think all teachers do care about our results, no matter whether they like us or we hate them, etc crap.
I knew quite a large bunch of fellow GESSians in my 4 yrs of sec sch. but shall talk abt them some time later. mainly there are about 40 from 1h/2h, then another 25 more in 3h/4h, plus 32 from intake 05 (theres left 24 only now), 100 seniors and juniors from gessncc and approx another 30-50 from someplace in the sch, which no one knows how i knew them or they knew me.
Notice i used a lot of 'or's. Simply that's the point. Life is full of unknowns, you never know, now you're still happily schooling and next moment you could be a billionaire or even live in a shanty town. Well, on the least extreme, i never knew my sec sch education could have been that fulfilling. i must say everything is just brought about by fate, what has been pre-arranged for you (though i dont believe in it). but you have the ability to change your fate, its not supernatural. i didnt know in sec1 that in 3yrs a guai-guai boy who attends every trg and goes home at 2pm everyday will become who i am today. It was a very major stepping stone in my life.
GSA Gold elegantly wrapped up my holistic sec sch life. many things i learnt, cant be bought, not inside the books, seriously, i didnt believe this but, its true.
More personally, i dont know what is it. study too much? no mood to study? i'm in mid-water everyday, wanting to study but my mind is divided. i broke a bowl on monday due to carelessness (could it be related?)
now, everything comes to end. even mt laptop runs out of battery, so, adieu for now.
I have been (maybe) too busy these few weeks... but nevertheless, from 16wks, the countdown dropped to less than 12. i have/havent really start studying, i dont knw too.
but still, must shout this out. scouts make a crappy/sucky/shitty/lousy GOH. okay, must say, parade 2ic dickson still not bad(but he surprise me when he say he dont knw the commands, not even kekiri pusing). the contingent sucked. got sec1 marching man. the parade cmdr sucked. cant even pronounce words like bendera (flag) and kawalan kerhormatan dahulu (GOH priortised) properly. shouting the time also shake shoulder.
no offecnce to anyone out thr, but i'm just posting a fact. if you think its exagerrate then so be it. i've got no other comment.
a few days before is cross country. the x-ctry race wasnt bad at all, but i failed to uphold what i wanted. 2008 was my only year in gess tht i did not draw a medal frm the pe dept. so far, i took 6 sports medals in 3yrs. also, with main plyrs like sl falling out of the top 10 (11th) and me out of the top 15 after recovering from a flu (22nd), 4h boys failed to defend the title, and aggregated 112 compared to 5b's 60. nonetheless, 4h girls still afforded to keep their pride while winning the team title once agn. it was a heartbreak for us, seriously. but, why so serious? so we caught dark knight later which i would rate, 6.5, honestly. i think the meaning behind it isnt quite comparable with some other movies. however, effects and action was great, i must admit.
even before was the two science spa skill 3 assessments. ....i think i shld be able to do well under the intensive training given, by our dearest coaches.
1st july. ncc day was cancelled due to bad weather, an intra-unit parade was held on friday 4th july. well, i think i do feel the same sentiments frm two other units with their parades cancelled too. low turnout for 4th jul parade but i was proud to be loyal to the corps (not dog kay?)
We, the members of the National Cadet Corps, And the youth of the Republic of Singapore, Do hereby pledge, to be loyal to the Republic, and the Corps And to maintain a high standard of discipline, and performance, So that we may better serve our country
i think i posted this sometime in april too.
well, thr goes all the major events for the past month. life can be quite monotonous nowadays.
a stupid insect just flew onto my screen. i tried to catch it and it flew away.
havent been posting cos i'm freaking hell damn bloody fucking busy these few days, or say this week.
firstly monday was a cd cse and tuesday was just a little revision.
then came wed which was totally wasted by a full day trg. 0730-1700. wasted indeed the WHOLE day. was the last trg for us. (besides nxt tues still having coc ceremony) aft trg i thought it was relax but came a job thrown to me, and also partially picked up by me. stupid of me eh?
settling nominal roll for part a camp feast didnt take me long into thursday. managed to complete 1 amaths ppr thurs aftnn.
then came friday which was agn gone down cos of cls vid at cobes hse. spent abt 3hrs+ thr. was until abt 4pm alrdy. so i decided to not touch any books or paper that day, and made sure i fully enjoyed and slacked thru the day. indeed, i did. went out later, had dinner and k session. went home not too late though.
saturday morning was a parade rehearsal then home, but didnt complete anyth then out again. went ard helping out relative then to my grandma hse. then went home and wanted to start but too tired frm all these shit. so went to sleep.
sunday, the last day before sch reopen. went to get a haircut and its freaking short now. later today went to my aunts bday but did hw thr. till the end of sunday, i had abt only 65%-70% of hol hw complete.
then came monday which was sch reopen, and blah blah blah all nonsense with disp and police talk in the morning which we have heard for more than 550918782 times. the whole day thru was tiring esp aft recess. then even worse when reached home cos many more things to do. iron uniform, finishing hol hw, etc, etc.made me busy.
tmr's gonna have the combined ug coc ceremony. yeah.
thr are just too many ppl around us tht cannot judge things for themselves.
nvrtheless, despite fatigue had quite a fun day today. went to tiong in morning 9++ for a meeting till 11+ then at 1pm went to sundrams hse do some study. well wasnt quite effective. maybe im more of a lone-worker kind of person. yah, i do agree i dont work well with grps and work much better myself. aft study went some cycling and playing arnd before a light meal then home. wth, sundrams's mum is just so _______. had a light stomache just now but feeling better now.
tmrs having trg. 0730-1700. then will be emaths lesson 1900-2100. still havent complete much of hw since coming back frm china. haiz. maybe bring some into the new term (most probably).
lifes like that. no arguing, no bargaining, no complains, no demands. life just carries on...
todays so damn tiring. firstly woke up early and set off to tiong to see only 3/7 cadets. ltr some late, some oversleep, some even cannot go. still nvm, went to wrong cd div. went to tampines (2 div) at first then were told tht wrong place. so call derek tan and he say is at 3 div, yishun. so finally reached thr at 9am (1hr late). well i think thts why my eye keeps twitching. nonetheless, was relieved tht our cadets quite behaved themselves. fire stn canteen food is so cheap! (but not very gd at all). this cd cse is just so superficial. aft cd cse went back to sch (not supposed to). and had some maths. but only aft few qns left. lol. others needed to do 20+ qns but i just did 3 and left. zz.
okay so returned frm china just ytd. so set off for hk damn early frm mo. hk airports t2 regulation is damn weird and security are damn strict. was a full flight and thus handcarry luggage was checked in. lol. too many ugly sporeans on the jetstar flt. sg airport security even stop us cos flt was frm hk and we had almost no baggage. touched down at abt 1500 so went home rested then went beach rd and finally got my ssg rank and lanyard! yay! aft family dinner prepared my no4 and slept quite late. (now refer back to top)
and btw this was done with someth called tablet technology...so proud of it. hope i can blog everyday with it. lol.
the MOP0.10 coin tht got stuck in the washing machine pump, which spent us HKD330 just for a 5 min check by the technician. lol. (11 jun)
basically these 3 days:
11 jun. i noticed tht i have not much time frm end of hols to complete my work and maybe start on some revision. anwy, didnt achieve much today and wasted abt 4hrs in ttl.
12 jun. also wasted quite some time but nvrtheless, completed more than ever in just this single day. aims set seemed to be acheivable. good dinner at some fogosamba brazilian.
13 jun. everything takes a setback on friday 13. anwy, count myself lucky. noth bad happened. my mum broke 4 plates in a row (well not really continuous but its 4 plates).
[tight schedule below] 14 jun. most probably off to hk for a relax day then back to s'pore.
15 jun. reaching back sg in aftnn.
16 jun. have lesson both morning and aftnn. maybe skip morning, go aftnn. or both. have to accompany 7 cadets go cd cse in hq. haiz. no4 again.
17 jun. same, morning phy, aftnn emaths.
18 jun. lighter day. emaths only.
19 jun. more relaxed, just speech appt and going out.
20 jun. maybe relaxing agn?
21jun-22jun. if the whole wk is so tight, this wkend spells only H.W. for me.
23 jun. term three week one day one. final charge.
sichuan, china. stop saying go szechuan or 四川加油 cos u knw they can make it, and they believe they can make it. dont suspect their strengths and hurt their confidence and pride. lol.
