OUTWARD BOUND SINGAPORE the 5-day OBS at Pulau Ubin wasnt really wasted, learnt quite alot of things there.. Day 1 late for sch, then reached there quite early...waited for another sch (BPGHS) n finally started. my watch (group)=Raffles, instructor=Clayton Ng (wtf same name as clayton lim!?) nvm. the log system quite new to me, ration n equipment all given at one shot. after lunch (only some bread n biscuits) finally started learning some knots n pitching tents. after that was kayaking (nothing new) n soon it was time for dinner (field cooking, but more like beach cooking). Raleigh watch was tgt with us all the time. [story1]. at nite it was pitch dark... and the insects were quite exciting... Dint sleep well.. Day 2 PT standard was like...not to GESS UG's standards. after PT n breakfast climbed 101 steps to sit down, tok cok then write journals. [story2]. , trust fall (really learn how to trust), then some belaying, n finally set off for Camp 1. it was much better than Camp II, of course. dint get to do rock climbing...cos the girls took quite some time... then dinner was quite a decent one (at least no field cooking). after dinner did the simulated caving at the 'award winning' Caving and Tunnelling system, then nite walk...missed supper...n slept in another tent with 2 juying guys... Day 3 its gonna be Sea Expedition (SeaEx). we kayaked westward from the Southcoast of Camp 1 n went along the coast of the island up to Sg Besar... met a crab there... then went in Sg besar...n after the land mass we got lost...but still managed to get out. then was the jetty jump...bet jetty n water i was thinking: why still not down yet? between underwater n surface i was thinking: why still not up yet? finally still got up n swam to safety. after that found that my face, half my arms and more than half my legs were badly sunburnt. slept on some hard rock near the reservoir for the night. Day 4 its the day for LandEx, what i've been anticipating. i've always preferred the land as compared to the sea. woke up as eaRLy as 7, Pt was walking up the peak to the navigational beacon. at there there was some positive brainwashing. [story 3]. took a walk with a bott cap full of water round the beacon, then we wrote journals. halfway it started to rain. put on ponchos n quickly put on all evacuated to MPH, and we were wet all over. at 12:07 finally set off... it was orienteering style, finding checkpoints and reporting them. they had a no n a quote on it:Chkpt 1 (near 5-track junction): OBS 24 "What happens around us is out of our control, but the way we choose to react to it is inside our control."Chkpt 2 (somewhere): OBS 30 "We are like teabags, we never know our true strength until we are put in hot water."Non-chkpt: OBS 77 "If we judge people, we have no time to love them."-Mother TheresaChkpt 3 (near peak of Bt Puaka): OBS 42 "The closer one gets to the top, the more one finds no top."Chkpt 4 (German Girl Shrine): OBS 73 "The best way to have a good idea is to have lots of ideas."I was applauded many a time for my good memory in remembering the quotes. then at chkpt 4 there was a game (or a challenge) which we took 1hr 49min to complete. it was a record! we reached camp at 1900hrs. packed up. dinner was the best dinner, but i ate little due to lack of time as much time was used for packing. slept very well. Day 5 finally is the last day of the camp. had some games in the morning. after some final settling of logistics...tears dropped...and soon after we all found ourselves on mainland singapore. we bade farewell n boarded the bus. that was one of the most sad times...
